We practice what we teach

North Star Synergies is an accredited training provider through the NAHB University of Housing, delivering ten accredited courses through founder and principal S. Robert August — the NAHB’s 2015 Sales and Marketing / Institute of Residential Marketing Educator of the Year, and one of only four Master Train the Trainers certified nationwide.

We mean the heading literally. The people teaching these courses have run the sales floors, marketed the communities, and closed the transactions the material describes. Our case studies come out of the same body of work as the curriculum.

The ten accredited courses

  • Business Management for Building Professionals — running the business behind the build.
  • Certified New Home Sales Professional — the foundational new home sales credential.
  • Customer Service — service as a sales and referral engine.
  • Effective Marketing on a Shoestring Budget — what to do when the budget really is small.
  • Essential Closing Strategies — closing as the end of a process you’ve built.
  • Home Technology Integration — selling and specifying technology in the home.
  • Home Construction as a Selling Tool — turning build quality into sales material.
  • Increased Profits Through Effective Builder-Broker Cooperation — brokers as a channel.
  • Marketing and Sales for Building Professionals — the combined discipline, end to end.
  • Train the Trainer — building training capability that stays with your company.

Where we teach them

At local Home Builders Associations, at national events including the International Builders’ Show, privately inside companies, and internationally — from IRM courses in Boise and Canton to a full-day workshop in Guatemala City.

Custom presentations

Ask us for a customized marketing, management, sales, economic development, or fund-raising presentation built around your company.

For association work especially — membership recruitment, retention, and sponsorship sales — a bespoke session often does more than an accredited course. Robert ranks second all-time in NAHB membership recruitment with more than 3,200 Spike credits, and was named Spike of the Year among 16,000 recruiters in 2014 and 2015. There’s a lot to share there.

NAHB Courses: common questions

What is an NAHB Accredited Principal Instructor?
An instructor certified by the National Association of Home Builders to deliver its University of Housing curriculum. It takes demonstrated industry expertise plus assessed teaching ability. Robert holds that accreditation for ten courses and is one of only four NAHB Master Train the Trainers certified nationwide.
Which NAHB courses can North Star Synergies teach?
Ten: Business Management for Building Professionals, Certified New Home Sales Professional, Customer Service, Effective Marketing on a Shoestring Budget, Essential Closing Strategies, Home Technology Integration, Home Construction as a Selling Tool, Increased Profits Through Effective Builder-Broker Cooperation, Marketing and Sales for Building Professionals, and Train the Trainer.
Do these courses count toward a professional designation?
NAHB University of Housing courses carry credit toward NAHB designations including CSP and MIRM. The NAHB sets those requirements and updates them from time to time, so check the current path with them or with us before you enroll for designation purposes.
Can you deliver a course for our association or company privately?
Happily. We run these regularly for local HBAs, associations, and individual companies, alongside national events like the International Builders' Show. If an accredited course isn't quite the right shape for what you need, we'll build you something custom.
